Can CBD’s Cure Cancer?
Can CBD’s found in Marijuana cure cancer? There has certainly been a lot of controversy around the idea of taking marijuana medically, especially considering the DEA’s dangerous classification of the substance. Fortunately for us medical users, the way it is classified could seriously change after a new government sponsored study came out early last July. Thinkprogress.org states “For the first time since 1994, the question of medical marijuana will go before a federal court.” Currently it is classified as a Schedule 1 substance, the same legal classification as heroin and morphine, but on October 16th, 2012, that could all change.
The government sponsored study that initiated the possibility of this change is, I believe, a great step forward in the medical marijuana industry. In the study, it also states, “evidence showed marijuana reliably reduced chronic neuropathic pain and muscle spasticity due to multiple sclerosis versus trials where a placebo was used.” So, in short, the big world of the government is slowly starting to wake up to the fact that this is medicine!
Now onto the main topic. Cannabidiols, or as they are better known, CBD’s, could certainly be the cure for cancer that we have been waiting for. The gene ID-1 is a gene that causes cancer to spread. Cannabidiols is a non toxic, non psychoactive chemical compound found in the cannabis plant. Two researchers in California decided to do a study. They combined high levels of the ID-1 gene and high levels of CBD’s in a petri dish. What do you expect that they found? “‘What we found was that Cannabidiols could essentially ‘turn off’ the ID-1 gene,’” Desprez told HuffPost. “The cells stopped spreading and returned to normal.”
“This article and the findings it reports just confirm what many have known, that Cannabidiol or CBD have tremendous health and wellness potential.” Says Ted Caligiuri, Interim President of MJNA. MJNA owns a company called PhytoSphere Systems, which currently produce a lot of non THC, CBD enhanced oils, tinctures, etc.
Right now, currently 17 states acknowledge marijuana to have medical benefits, and more and more studies come out every year proving this point even further. If the federal government accepts this, then we will soon be swept into a CBD revolution. Within years cancer may no longer be considered a fatal disease.
Since the late 80’s, researchers have been looking into the possibility of marijuana having anti tumor properties. In Madrid Spain a journal published a study. In the study, 9 patients with glioblastoma multiforme, (the most common form of brain tumors), who had already tried surgery, radiotherapy and had clear tumor progression were administered THC clinically. The study stated that “Tetrahydrocannabinol inhibited tumour-cell proliferation in vitro and decreased tumour-cell Ki67 immunostaining when administered.”
Once this cure is backed by our government, I think that it will be accepted by the general public, even the ones that previously considered it a dangerous drug from their DARE brainwash sessions. All it will take is a bit of time. Soon there will be more official clinical tests and then maybe years and years from now, it will just be legal =). So in conclusion, cannabis cures cancer, believe it or not….
